Gordon Wells – Chairman
Gordon (or Gid as he is normally known) started in the industry from school as a trainee Quantity Surveyor for Dunnings Shopfitting Ltd. Progressing to senior level, after 9 years at Dunnings, Gid moved to Phillips Shopfitting in Andover going on to do not only QS’ing but estimating and project management as well. He formed Powells Shopfitting Services Ltd in 1985 with the ambition to grow the company to a top 20 UK shopfitting firm with a turnover exceeding £20 million. Both of those targets were achieved many years ago with the company hitting it’s highest turnover of £39m in 2015. Gid stepped down as Managing Director in 2015 to take up the role of Chairman which he still holds today.
Paul Moulding – Managing Director
Paul began his career at Phillips Shopfitting in 1979 working through his joinery apprenticeship, and it was here that he met and developed a professional relationship with our Chairman Gid. Excelling in his work he was encouraged to take up a junior position in the drawing office where he quickly gained the role of Senior Draughtsman. Paul left Phillips Shopfitting in 1992 and joined Amos Danby Interiors as a Contracts Manager, however after three years at the firm and looking to further his career he renewed his relationship with Gid at (then) Powells Shopfitting in 1995. Throughout his time at Powells Ltd, Paul has risen through the ranks from his first role as a Contracts Manager, to Contracts Director and now to his position as Managing Director, successfully building and developing professional working relationships for the company along the way, with numerous clients including Fullers, Thorntons and H&M, remaining strong partners of Powells.
Roger Munnery – Business Development Director
Roger began in the industry at Dunnings Shopfitting Ltd completing his apprenticeship alongside Gid and Chris Paris and remained at the firm for 17 years. He has a strong history in procurement and value engineering, working as Purchasing Manager for Amey Building Ltd from 1991 to 1999 and as Senior Director of Procurement at Fisher Development Inc. (GAP) from 1999 to 2002 overseeing operations in the UK, France and Germany. In 2002, taking on the role of Senior Contracts Manager at Powells, initially he worked on Molton Brown’s and FCUK’s roll out programs, going on to oversee the expansion of Urban Outfitters throughout the UK and Europe. In 2004 Roger rose to the position of Business Development Director where he was tasked with generating new clients, as well as overseeing pre-qualification documentation and implementing Powells quality management systems. Roger is also an active member on the NAS Executive Council.
Greg Wells – Director and Chief Estimator
Prior to Powells, Greg worked for Andover Leisure Centre holding multiple positions as Football Coach, Lifeguard and even Children’s Activities Coordinator. In 2002 he joined Powells as a Transport & Plant Assistant, swiftly moving into the position of Assistant Transport Manager in 2003, then Transport Manager the following year. Two years later he joined our Estimating team and in 2015 was promoted to Chief Estimator, a title he still holds today as well as gaining his directorship in 2018.
Mark Higgins – Contracts Director
Having started from a joinery background, Mark joined us as a Contracts Manager in 2001, working his way up to the position of Contracts Director in 2018. He started his career with Powells managing a wide range of retail and restaurant projects in both the UK and Ireland and was involved in both interior works and heavy side constructions. In 2009, he was awarded the role of Senior Contracts Manager overseeing the prestigious flagship ‘Maison’ Louis Vuitton store in New Bond Street, which won the NAS Design Partnership Awards in 2011. In recent times in his role as Contracts Director, Mark and his team have carried out major projects including the refit and partial reconstruction of the Cartier ‘Temple’ in New Bond Street, Mayfair and in 2019 Adidas’ cutting edge new global flagship store in London’s iconic Oxford Street.
Chris Paris – Director and Chief Surveyor
Chris started in the construction industry in 1977 as a trainee Quantity Surveyor, also at Dunnings Shopfitting Ltd. His career has been a combination of self-employed opportunities and working with a number of established building contractors in a range of disciplines gaining a broad range to his expertise. Chris joined Powells in 2013 as a Senior QS acquiring directorship in 2018. He now heads up a strong commercial team, experienced in collaborative working, with a commitment to client satisfaction, integrity and budgetary control.
Graham Turner – Company Secretary
After being awarded his degree, Economics and Geography BA (Hons) from The University of Sheffield in 1978, Graham trained with Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young), qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1984. Since then he has worked for a diverse range of operations during his working life from Ford Motor Company to Carlin Music Corporation, where he worked with many well known artists and their royalties management. After five years with book publisher Dragons World Ltd he joined Powells in 1998 as Financial Controller and in 2003 took over as Company Secretary, which he remains to this day.
